René Frotscher was born in Nuremberg in 1969 and moved to the UK with his family in 1975 at the tender age of six where he grew up and spent almost 18 years of his life.
He’s been performing close-up magic for over 30 years, first as resident magician in several restaurants in London and environs and later at corporate events, trade fairs, product launches and conferences all over Europe. He now also has a solo stage show that he performs regularly at the Heppel & Ettlich Theatre in Munich.
René enjoys making the impossible possible and seeing the reactions of his audience whilst performing magic very close up. His clever sense of humour, natural wit, quick-fire ability to ad lib and even perform in a multitude of languages makes him unique in the magic business.
René has been based in Munich since 1996.
Among his trademark tricks are a signed banknote that ends up inside a previously examined tomato and a signed card that ends up stuck to the ceiling.
In 2010, René was awarded first prize in the cabaret-magic category at an international magicians’ contest in Austria and in 2014, he won first prize in the three-nations (D-A-CH) magic contest “Kneitinger Bierschlegel” in Regensburg. In November 2016, he received 1st prize in “Comedy Magic” at the two-nations magical championships AUT/SLO held in Maribor, officially making him the Austrian Champion. René also won the 2017 German National Championships in the Comedy-Magic category. 2017 also marks Rene’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut (August 14-19)
He also performs regularly in theatres and comedy clubs like Drehleier, Heppel & Ettlich, Theater…und so fort, Vereinsheim Schwabing, (all in Munich) Quatsch Comedy Club (Berlin), Knust & Schmidt Theater (Hamburg) and Arche Noe (Kufstein-Austria). René has performed on TV and radio in England, Germany, Argentina and Japan, various magic festivals in France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland and at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017.
